Key features of Self-Priming Pump
Primed for Air Handling
These pumps are designed to handle air or gas mixed with the fluid, allowing them to maintain their primed state even when air is present in the system.
Check Valves or Flapper Valves
Self-priming pumps often incorporate check valves or flapper valves in the suction line to prevent the pumped fluid from flowing back and to maintain the primed state.
Recirculation
Some self-priming pumps use a recirculation system that directs a portion of the pumped fluid back to the pump’s casing during startup, aiding in the priming process.
How Vertical Self-Priming Pump Work
Initial Filling: When the self-priming pump is initially started, the pump casing and impeller are partially filled with liquid. This liquid can come from a priming reservoir, an external source, or through a recirculation system within the pump itself.
Air Evacuation: As the pump starts to operate, the impeller rotates, creating a centrifugal force that forces the liquid outward. At the same time, the liquid in the impeller’s vanes pushes air toward the pump casing’s discharge or outlet. This air is then expelled through a vent or air release valve.
Creation of Vacuum: As the air is removed from the pump casing and suction line, a vacuum is created within the pump. This vacuum helps to draw fluid in from the suction line.
Fluid Inlet: The fluid from the suction line is drawn into the pump casing due to the vacuum created. The fluid fills the void left by the expelled air.
Fluid Discharge: Once the fluid is drawn into the pump casing, it mixes with the liquid already present and is then pushed by the impeller toward the pump’s discharge outlet.
Check Valves or Flapper Valves: Many self-priming pumps incorporate check valves or flapper valves in the suction line to prevent the pumped fluid from flowing back into the source during the pumping cycle. These valves maintain the primed state and help ensure that air is not reintroduced into the pump casing.
Continuous Operation: Once the self-priming pump is successfully primed and fluid is flowing, it continues to operate efficiently. The pump will continue to evacuate any small amounts of air or gases that might be introduced during operation, ensuring that the pumping process remains effective.

Structural feature
Inlet and outlet installation
There are two types of water entering:type pump adopts pipe-structure with inlet installed at any angle of plane of 360 degree.type pump's suction mouth is downward and outlet can be installed any angle of plane 270 degree. It has the features of space-saving and less cost for construction.It needn't dismantle inlet and outlet pipes while maintenance.
Self-priming disk
Self-priming disk is subject to air-water vane segregate design with multiple passages(self-suction disc) which is capable of completing self-priming process in a quick time,even 1/3-1/2 much shorter than that of WFB with single volute pressure water chamber.The pump has small cubage and light weight.
Controlling
Pump can be equipped with controller which can automatically start or stop pump according to liquid level,and give an alarm for over loading.Pump can work automatically without any help of people.
Drive mode
Pump is connected with motor through rigid coupling.Viewed from the motor end,the rotating direction of pump is clockwise.
Impeller
The impeller adopts closed structure with excellent performance.compared with pump type of open structure,its efficiency is 10%-15% much higher and the permissible installing suction depth is 0.5-1m deeper.In the meanwhile,the motor power of this kind pump can be much lower than that of other pumps with the same performance parameters,so it saves more energy.
Vacuum-destroy mode
This type of pump has air balance-hole and U pipe which can automatically break siphon,and when pump stops operating,siphon system can not pump all water out of pump,so only if pump be injected with liquid upon first start,it can be free from refilling permanently.
